Ingredients

For the chili:

1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil
1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
1 lb (450 g) spicy Italian sausage meat
1 pack (680 g) SAVOURA Cocktalio tomatoes, diced
1 cup (250 ml) tomato sauce
1/2 cup (125 ml) blonde beer
1/4 cup (60 ml) beef broth
3 tbsp (45 ml) tomato paste
3 tbsp (45 ml) minced garlic
4 tsp (20 ml) sugar
4 tsp (20 ml) chili seasoning
1 tsp (5 ml) cumin
3 half bell peppers (mixed colours), diced
1 onion, chopped
1 can (540 ml) red kidney beans, rinsed and drained

For the toppings (optional, to taste):

Shredded yellow cheddar cheese
Corn chips
Sour cream
Red pepper hot sauce (such as Tabasco)
Fresh chopped cilantro
Chopped green onions
Diced Cocktalio tomatoes

Preparation

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the ground beef and sausage meat for 3 to 4 minutes, breaking the meat apart as it cooks. Remove any excess fat from the pan.
  2. Transfer the mixture to the slow cooker. Add all the remaining chili ingredients except the kidney beans, then stir well.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours.
  4. Add the kidney beans, stir, cover again, and cook for another hour on low.
  5. Serve the chili with your choice of toppings and enjoy!
