Under the responsibility of the Human Resources Department, the Health and Safety Officer plays a key role in developing and promoting a strong workplace health and safety (H&S) culture. Working closely with management teams, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining effective H&S programs across all our sites, with the goal of reducing risks and ensuring the protection of our employees.
You ensure the implementation, monitoring, and proper functioning of health and safety (H&S) programs in collaboration with internal and external resources. As an H&S ambassador, you promote safe behaviors through communications, training, and awareness campaigns. You also manage key programs such as lockout/tagout, accident analysis, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), while actively participating in incident investigations, preventive inspections, and internal or external audits.
You coordinate and lead H&S committee meetings, tracking objectives, deadlines, and actions of members or designated individuals. You also prepare and distribute communications related to the committee’s decisions and activities, contributing to effective organization and teamwork.
You identify health and safety training needs, plan and organize the necessary sessions to ensure ongoing compliance. You train managers and employees on H&S programs, procedures, and initiatives, with a strong focus on adhering to current regulations.
You develop and update accident management tools, such as guides and dashboards. Through your analysis of accident statistics, you identify opportunities for improvement and provide concrete recommendations. Lastly, you produce weekly, monthly, and annual reports on H&S indicators and collaborate with management to evaluate performance and set priorities in health and safety.
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is required, along with 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar role. Proven experience in developing an OHS culture or a formal OHS structure is essential.
You have expertise in lockout/tagout procedures, machine safety, and associated OHS standards, as well as a solid understanding of OHS laws, regulations, and standards in Quebec. Advanced proficiency in office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is also required.
You demonstrate motivational leadership and the ability to inspire collaboration. Your excellent interpersonal skills, active listening, and effective communication enable you to manage complex situations with diplomacy. You are detail-oriented, organized, and highly adaptable.
You excel at identifying and resolving problems thanks to your attention to detail and your ability to prioritize tasks in demanding environments.
